Lugano Lego Creations
In addition to drawing and printmaking, I also enjoy designing custom Lego MOCs (My Own Creation) using Lego Studio. Below you will find my designs of Lugano, Switzerland: The Bay of Lugano, and the Village of Gandria.
Bay of Lugano, Switzerland
This Lego cityscape depicts the bay of Lugano, with Monte San Salvatore in the center, the famous funicolar train, a sailboat, and the shoreline of the city of Lugano with a palm tree and Swiss flag.
This Lego MOC measures approximately 14.5cm wide by 9.5cm tall, or slightly smaller than a standard 4 x 6in photograph.
The set uses 100 different types of bricks (lots), and it is optimized for ordering on BrickLink with a cost of approximately CHF 15-20. For ordering on Lego the Pick-a-Brick website, simply change the plates and tiles with a Medium Blue color to Dark Azure for the sunset background. You can arrange the sunset however you like, but the default design uses a range of plates in Yellow, Bright Light Yellow, Light Orange, Bright Light Blue, Lavender, Coral, and Medium Blue to capture the vibrant sunsets you can often find in the skies over Lugano.
Lugano-Gandria, Switzerland
Inspired by the well-known 1950s travel poster by Daniele Buzzi, this scene depicts the lakeside village of Gandria, outside the city of Lugano. Visitors to Lugano will find postcard reproductions of this poster in any souvenir stand in the area.
The composition is dominated by a collection of houses and a church on the right side, with surrounding greenery, and a fishing boat in the water. In the background you can see the warmly-lit shape of San Salvatore looming over the bay.
If you are planning a visit to Lugano, be sure to take a boat or hike to Gandria for a meal and enjoy this beautiful village, which appears frozen in time.
